We are making some major changes
here. So this is the
beginning.
Nintendo Channel now available
A new Wii channel was released today, called the "Nintendo Channel". This channel gives the user videos and information on games, as well as DS downloads and purchase links. This channel also gathers anonymous information on your settings and playing habits, and allows you to recommend titles and channels you've used for over an hour on your console. A WiiConnect24 message containing the necessary update was sent out today, and the channel is available for free download on the Wii Shop Channel.

The newest version of the Wiiscrubber has been released today. The Wiiscrubber is an ISO compressor made for the Wii by Dack, a member on the popular forum site, www.GBAtemp.net.
The changes with this version include more effectice and efficient compressions and some bug fixes. The changelog is as follows:
New Stuff:
1. Smaller compressed sizes are possible
2. Allows the replacement of files on the ISO (Right click LOAD menu is now working) 3. Allows for replacement of files larger than the original file 4. Auto Trucha signs if a file is replaced
Bug fixes: 1. Another 32/64 bit error fixed means that an extra 100-200 Megs are saved from an image. 2. Few display errors corrected 3. Another 32/64 error meant some files could not be extracted correctly
Essentially, this was a bug fix release and will make using it a tad more professional.
A little bit dated, but only by five days, we bring you WiiPaint 1.0. It seems homebrew programs are coming out of the crawlspaces now. This is definitely a good thing to see. Many people are saying that the Wii's homebrew scene may eventually catch up to the PSP's homebrew scene in terms of the majority of people using and creating homebrew specifically on the Wii. That may be true, maybe not, but until we find out, you can thank Kontakatilu for this developing paint tool, WiiPaint 1.0. The source site is in Spanish, but that shouldn't stop you from understanding how to download it. You can translate the page if you have to.
For those of you into Sega emulation on the Wii, the new emulator was released with a whole lot of changes:
- fixed VDP initial when loading save state: graphics fix in TMS9918 mode - added port $3E emulation and full support for SMS BIOS - implemented SMS1 VDP "tilemap mirroring" bug: fix Y's status bar when in SMS1 - updated Z80 core - corrected PAL CPU clock value - Updated FM Unit detection
- added full overscan emulation - corrected Game Gear VDP handlers in SMS mode: fix colors in GG-MS mode - improved Codemasters Mapper emulation - added Korean Mapper emulation - adjusted SMS color palette values
- added support for original video mode (240p/288p) - added "Aspect" option to switch between Original and Fit Screen display modes - added "Xshift" & "Yshift" settings
- added "Border" option to enable/disable borders color emulation - added "Palette" option to let you choose the Brightness level
- added Wii mode support
- added EURGB60 & PAL 50hz TV modes support - added 480p rendering mode support in Wii mode (not supported by the PAL60 version, use the other one, even on PAL wii)
Joyous news for all Wii-owning brewers, the Wii can run unsigned code without physical modification! The method, known as the "Twilight Hack", has been floating around the internet for a little while, so sorry if this is a little late. As the name implies, it requires a copy of "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess", as well as an SD card and a computer that you can write to an SD card from. It works through a stack buffer overflow, and is the only way that you can run homebrew without a modchip. Note that GC applications won't run through this method. The hack works with the following disc versions: RVL-RZDP-0A-0 JPN - working Some minor problems reported e.g. Some greeny lines around the top area of the screen that appear with the penguin and if the TV type is set to 480i/p (60Hz or EDTV mode) the bottom is cut off
RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN - working RVL-RZDE-0A-0 USA - working RVL-RZDE-0A-2 USA - working RVL-RZDJ-0A-0 JPN - not supported yet
Ok, sorry folks. 3rd time I've been sick in Japan. Grrr. Anyway, have a lot to catch up on!

just click the picture for a bigger image. Thanks to Wiinewz for the picture.
Coming from another site, Modcontrol , There seems to be new chips surfacing on LEH-161 Wiis. These chips (GC2-D1A and GC2-D1) are allegedly compatable with the Argon chip and some compatability with the D2Ckey. I'll have more on this when I can.
OpenWii v 2.3 has been released. However, there seems to be some problems with this release so expect another update. Here's a clip from the readme:

SSBB Update:
Unfortunately, this wonderful wonderful game has been delayed. The new release date is set for Sunday, March 9th.
Some good news though. Famitsu has given this game a perfect score, 40/40. You can check out some scans of the game at Neogaf.
Almost there... We have a release from Crediar, WiiTools v 0.1. With this tool you can extract and decrypt partitions from Wii isos.

The Infectus team has released a prototype image of Injectus, the USB programmer for their Argon D2C modchip. For 15 Euros (about $22 US) you can have the option of easily reprogramming your Argon chip should the need arise in the future. From the Infectus site:
This revolutionary programmer is very CHEAPER and is the only one in the market that support JTAG programming of ACTEL A3P family in a very easy way. Very HOT product for all DEVELOPERS of VHDL codes.
INJECTUS JTAG is provide with a very easy standard connector where all users can connect FLAT CABLES of INFECTUS PRODUCTS FAMILY. All ARGON users can use this little programmer to update argon firmwares simple connecting the ARGON flat cable.
Some users ask us WHY don't update the modchips by CD or DVD like WIIKEY... Answer is very simple, with JTAG we have the 100% power to change anything inside the modchip, this allow us to release new unbelivables versions of ARGON firmwares that suppport for example FEW WIRES or new nice features
xt5 and CyBeR at the Wiinewz forum have given a small update to what exactly has happened with the Wii so far.
- They got the wii keys, and we could use them without hacking our wii again. - This hack requires a drive modchip to execute the code. - There is not any tool to sign the code, but it's coming soon. - They are working to access to the SD thought EXI. - There is not any stack homebrew for bluetooth - A linux port for Wii will be released easily.
Again, remember as this is the birth of Wii homebrew, few details are public at this time, but updates will probably be coming soon.

"The guys over at 24C3 just demoed a Wii hack that is set to provide native wii homebrew in the near future (not running in GC mode, and with full access to all the Wii hardware!)
They were able to find encryption and decryption keys by doing full memory dumps at runtime over a custom serial interface. Using these keys, they were able to create a Wii ‘game’ that ran their own code (their demo happened to show live sensor/Wiimote information, amongst a few other things)."
The following video taken shows the Wii running some very basic stuff as they had compiled the code just hours before the Wii was showcased. Since this is still very new, there are not a whole lot of details. All the information the public knows as of now is in this video. I think we can all agree that this is a great day for the Wii scene.
If the video doesn't work, you can try the following links.
Bell over at Wiinewz has released a new version of the popular open source mod YAOSM. This new release has added configuration disc support for the smaller PIC chips, but at a cost. Below is an excerpt from the readme.
"This version has been optimized even more so that by removing Gamecube import support (use GCOS to boot them instead) I have managed to include support for the configuration disc on the smaller chips.
It also includes a change to the config disc handling to make sure the new config disc can be used safely on yaosm 1.9 chips without overwriting the drivecode with the audiofix configuration byte.
I hope this will be the last release candidate for yaosm 2.0 and if you are using rc2 today and don't plan to use the config disc then there is no need to upgrade.
The chips with only 1024 words of program area has been crippled to make the code fit.
This is what has been removed on each chip type:
12F629/675 - Gamecube region patching, Chip disable feature 12F635 - Gamecube region patching, Chip disable feature, Dual layer support 16F627/627A - Gamecube region patching, Chip disable feature, Dual layer support 16F630/676 - Gamecube region patching, Chip disable feature"
Here's the prototype image for the new D2C modchip ARGON. To refresh your memory this is the D2C modchip that boasts a 13 wire install compared to the D2Ckey 31 wire install.
Infectus will be producing 4000 chips initially and is currently taking preorders.
Thats right, to help us bring back WiiBrew we are hosting a contest. But not just any contest, A MEGA contest.
